Not much happening

Well, the first week of rehersals was mostly uneventful. We blocked the whole show that first week (in the chorus room since the stagecraft class was using the stage space to assemble the set that will be used in The Odd Couple: female version.) As the Mushnik u/s, it is my job to sit back, take down all the notes for that character, and then apply all of it to a special database in my memory that I may never need to use. Understudy is, undoubtedly, a thankless job, and you get no rehersal time yourself and must therefore mooch off of the principal's rehersal time (sit in the house and observe). I must say that I love the costume plot for this show. Muchnik needs only a suit, cardigan, and hat for the whole show, and bernstein needs only a trenchcoat and a hat for his moment on the stage. So, I wear the Mushnik costume under the trenchcoat, and use the trenchcoat in the Skid Row (Downtown) number as a bum (just add a scarf, worn boots, and stocking cap) and it's perfect! And then, should the need arise, I can become Mushnik instantly by removing the coat and hat and by adding a moustache.

I might not seem like it, but I love small-scale/minimalist things. Little Shop is by no means a minimalist production, but it is a small-scale production with a big-production aura.

I went to Goodwill this weekend and found a record album of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem. It's beautiful! I believe it is the only choral piece he's written and he did a damn good job at it. I listened to the whole thing and loved it. It wouldn't surprise me if they played it at his own funeral (which I hope is not for a very long time).

Check out my links. I've added the official Little Shop of Horrors website. Look for me in the fan-forum.

Little Shop of Horrors (first installment)

We have finished with our auditions for Little Shop of Horrors, and I have been cast as Mr. Bernstein and the u/s Mr. Mushnik. We held a read-through today and based on everything I saw auditon week and today, it's going to be a damn good show.

So, I've decided to keep my few (and possibly nonexistant) readers updated on the rehersal process and various cast members and whatnot (I've stolen this idea from Patti LuPone. I hope she doesn't mind). Every Friday, I will post about how the rehersals have been going, and my thoughts on a certain cast/crew member. Perhaps I'll give everyone a link to this so that they can see what I really think about them (all of which, currently, is good).

Anyway, that's all I really wanted to say. I won't have anything to write until Friday, so I'll write then.

BTW: I'll be putting up production photos when it's all done so you can see how well it all went.
